The Aquaponics 4.0 Learning Factory (AllFactory) is the world’s first engineering-driven research and training facility dedicated to autonomous, sustainable food production.
Target: Climate-Resilience
AllFactory integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, automation, and AI-driven monitoring to develop high-efficiency vertical farming systems. By combining aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soil-free plant cultivation), aquaponics enables a zero-waste nutrient cycle, significantly reducing water, energy, and fertilizer consumption compared to traditional farming methods.
This learning factory revolves around the production systems focusing on vertical farming and, more specifically, sustainable, environmentally friendly Aquaponics 4.0 systems and processes. The target engineering systems provide effective designs, tools, and methods for the growth of various selected crops, i.e., lettuce and basil, strawberries, and tomatoes. By leveraging smart sensing, automation, and cyber-physical systems, AllFactory is paving the way for a fully autonomous, green, and scalable precision farming future where zero resources will be wasted.
